About the song

Keep on the Sunny Side of Life was first copyrighted in 1899, with words by Ada Blenkhorn and tune by J Howard Entwisle. The Carter Family reportedly learned it from a shape-note book (maybe the shaped note version here), and A.P. Carter copyrighted their version in 1928 (through Ralph Peer and Southern Music).

Reportedly, Ada Blenkhorn was inspired to write the words by a wheelchair-bound cousin, who said she was happier when wheeled to the sunny side of the street.
